GroundTruth Network is inspired by the science of remote sensing: using data from satellites, airborne sensors and ground-based platforms to map and monitor vast landscapes and how they change over time.

The GroundTruth Network is where art meets science.

Using new media, documentary and interactive art, GroundTruth creates a catalyst for discussion about how humans and nature are changing the environment we live in and the role of spatial sciences in tracking the change.

Trace Touch Feel The Brisbane River

Experience the curious and unexpected sensation of ultrasonic pressure against your hands as you soar like a bird on an immersive geo-tour of Brisbane River.

Through skilful hand movements, pilot a virtual Steampunk drone from Moreton Bay to Wivenhoe Dam. Glide past graceful bridges linking the city, cliff to cliff. Or touchdown along Brisbane shorelines to enjoy the shapes, sounds, and forms of the city’s unique interplay of geology, wildlife, and human activity.

Fire, Flood and Human Endeavour

The GroundTruth immersive media exhibitions bring to life satellite imagery of the Greater Brisbane Region, the Channel Country and Cape York to show us how humans and nature are changing the environment we live in.

Step forwards and backwards through time and sound for an interactive journey through some of Queensland’s most cyclical and rapidly changing landscapes.

In a unique collaboration, media artist Grania Kelly has teamed with Queensland Government remote-sensing scientists and visualisation experts at QUT Institute for Future Environments to bring this mapping to life.

An immersive exploration of place and change

This project is supported by the Queensland Government through Arts Queensland.

About the Artist – Grania Kelly

grania kelly

Grania is a new media artist and documentary filmmaker working in immersive storytelling, exploring the intersection between digital narrative, art, new technology and science through her media production company StarSapphire Productions and GroundTruth brand.

With a Bachelor of Visual Arts from Sydney College of the Arts, Grania’s passion for immersive storytelling began in 2003 with the multi-screen work The Sanctuary Room (Noosa Regional Gallery), a response to the emerging post 9/11 era of terror where no one felt completely safe.

After directing several documentaries, including Bringing Uncle Home for the ABC, Grania returned to immersive storytelling in 2018 with Ground Truth – Fire, Flood & Human Endeavour.

With the ongoing support of QUT, spatial industry groups and art and science engagement funding from Queensland Government, the ethos of the GroundTruth project has burgeoned into the GroundTruthNetwork brand, attracting cross-sector partners and flow on developments in education, technology, media, and exhibition spaces.
